"That's all any of us are: amateurs. We don't live long enough to be anything else"

The author of the book who pushed me to start this journey, Austin Kleon, deserves the first post in my blog. He's clear since the first pages of his book "Show your work". Waiting until your masterpiece is ready will never bring you to show your work.

That's all any of us are: amateurs. We don't live long enough to be anything else - Charlie Chaplin

The art lies in the process, in making mistakes over and over again, not in the final masterpiece. In the book "Art & Fear", by David Bayles and Ted Orland, this concept is unequivocal:

QUANTITY LEADS TO QUALITY

In the book, there's a nice parable about a ceramics teacher who divides his class into two groups, Group X and Group Y.

Group X has to focus exclusively on quantity. To get an A, they have to create fifty pounds of pots (no matter their quality).

Group Y, on the other hand, has to focus on the quality. To get an A, they had to create a perfect pot (only one).

During the grading, a curious fact emerged. Group X produced pots qualitatively better than Group Y.

If you still have doubts about starting "something yours", there's another nice theory.

ACTIONS LEAD TO MOTIVATION

Life's too short to wait first for inspiration and then for the motivation to start something. Start sketching down the skeleton of your idea or project. Only by doing, you'll find the motivation.
